Conservatives Pledge to Improve Northwick Park Hospital |

| Bob Blackman, Conservative Candidate for Harrow East, and Mike Penning, the Conservative Shadow Health Minister, visited Northwick Park Hospital on Thursday to see at first hand the Accident & Emergency Unit and paediatric A&E as well as the Orthodontics Department. They were shown around the units by Chief Executive Fiona Wise, Clinical Director Manolis Heliotis and Clinical Lead Dr Victor Crow. There has been much concern recently about the threats to the A&E Department at Northwick Park and the Labour Governments proposals to close 5 out of the 8 A&E Departments in North-West London. In addition, the value of the expertise at the Orthodontics Department has been undervalued by the Labour Government, particularly as it is now very difficult to find an NHS dentist. The Conservatives have pledged to halt Labours planned series of closures of A&E departments and ensure that a proper clinical review is held to examine what services are provided from each facility. We are also concerned that Labours plans for a network of polyclinics across London pose a real threat to local family doctor services. The Conservatives have also pledged to improve the availability and funding of NHS dentistry. Mike Penning, Shadow Health Minister, commented, I was immensely impressed by the professionalism, dedication and commitment of all the staff who offer vital services to the community and was able to assure them that a future Conservative Government would not allow the present plans by NHS London, which seem to be driven by financial concerns rather than clinical outcomes. Bob Blackman commented, Northwick Park Hospitals A&E department is strategically vital for Harrow residents. The Conservatives are committed to ensuring that Northwick Park Hospital retains its A&E facility and that patients have the choice as to where to receive treatment. Equally, the Orthodontics Department is a centre of unbelievable expertise and we need to ensure that this work is recognised and promoted. The work that they do is remarkable and they must be congratulated in helping reconstruct the victims of accidents and assaults. |
